Rachel Berry is 17 years old, about five foot two, fond of the short skirt/knee socks combo, and prone to bursting into song. According to her, she won her first dance competition in infancy, but Rachel's main talent lies in singing. Rachel's sole ambition in life is to become a Broadway legend, joining the ranks of Barbra Streisand and Patti LuPone. Rachel views everything she does as progress towards that goal, whether it's show choir, dance lessons, homework, recording herself singing for MySpace, acting in a mattress commercial, or getting her heart broken.

In short, Rachel is driven, ambitious, strident, socially awkward, surprisingly kind at times, and way too big a fish for little McKinley High. An endless string of slushie-wielding bullies have tried and failed to break her spirit. To quote the woman herself, "Nobody, but nobody, is gonna rain on my parade."
